Hi Durga, First i would like to say ‘Big Thanks’ for all your efforts and guidance.
I am Mainframe professional and i had desided to move out from the legacy system so i learned the “Hadoop” course in edureka. Now i am practicing and preparing for the certification CCA175.
I heared about this site from one of my friend who already got the job in big data ( moved from mainframe background) and looks like this site is very usefull for those wo wants to acquire the Big data . Thank you so much for your guidance.

I am using below command to import table into hive from sql:
sqoop import-all-tables –num-mappers 1 –connect “jdbc:mysql://localhost/retail” –username=root –P –hive-import –hive-overwrite –create-hive-table –warehouse-dir ‘/user/hive/warehouse/’;
The job is successfully completed and I am able to see file in /user/hive/warehouse but when I execute show tables ; command it does not show imported table.
Please help me in resolving the issue
Vineet Anand says
January 17, 2017 at 10:46 am
By Default all tables will be created in Default data base. So once U get into HIVE U need to give the command “Show tables”. Try without giving –warehouse-dir, once job is over then look in default data base or define additional parameter –hive-database . All tables will get created in the specified Database.
January 17, 2017 at 4:19 am
In the last video, I think we can apply the second filter (i.e checking the amount >= 1000)) before join operation and after reduceByKey, so that it will further reduce the number of records going into JOIN operation.

I am following your channel (itversity) on you tube from more than 6 months. I have viewed and practice Pig from your channel.
To give a brief background, I am working as a Reporting Analyst in one of the MNC and holds in total of 5 Years of experience. I know Excel, VBA, MySQL and have good real time experience in Hive kind of database where we take data from semi-structure files and generate reports.
I am aspiring for future in Hadoop ETL developer which would give a good edge to my current profile.
I am learning Hadoop from past 1 year and due to unmanaged schedule my learning was not very smooth. Now I am giving my 100% to switch to this profile.
Please help me with the small2 practice project which could be done using Pig, Sqoop, Hive, HDFS, HBase, Oozie.
I also started learning Spark (with Scala) and would also need some real time project with Core Spark.
Please guide me and help in shaping my career, I would be grateful to you.

I am interested in doing a Hadoop certification but not sure which one to consider. I am split between Cloudera Certified of Apache Hadoop or CCA.
My background is Software QA but i want to do these certification as they are very much in demand plus I will get to learn new technology.
– How much programming does these certifications requires? I am not very technical person so which one do you recommend for me?
– What are the job prospects? Are both the certifications in demand.
– How the process goes? We can register any time for certifications like I want to prepare before I take a date for the exam.
Please let me know any help will be really appreciated.

July 17, 2017 at 10:18 am
Ok, thank you for the feedback. I did not claim that I am the only reliable trainer in this world. As I have highlighted about my training you might have felt that way.
July 17, 2017 at 12:24 pm
Also, I have removed references which are highlighting my training. Learners should do due diligence even before enrolling to my classes.

I strongly agree with ItVersity’s opinion. I wish this study was published 2 year back. I spent money on one of the sites listed above which happened to be a scam. I should have realized it when sales team of the company pronounce “Apache Storm” and “Apache Strom”. The courses had lot of text probably copied from different source materials and a microsoft narrator voice to it. Moreover this sites will highlight some linkedin profiles who claim to have benefited from the course.
This article provides very good insight.

Thank you for such great initiative and videos. One feedback –
In this video – Create java application using Maven Project
One has to remove JRE 1.5 from Java Build Path – Libraries tab, and
Add back JRE 1.8.
Once done, STS project will reflect correct JRE 1.8 version.

b) Is it compulsory to use flume for streaming problems, or may you use spark-streaming?

Tried the below :
sqoop import-all-tables \
–num-mappers 1 \
–connect “jdbc:mysql://sandbox-hdp.hortonworks.com:3306/retail_db” \
–hive-database sqoop_import \
–compression-codec org.apache.hadoop.io.compress.SnappyCodec \
worked perfectly for me. But only 4 out of the 6 tables got imported. I did not get any errors as well. Any idea ?
hive> dfs -ls /apps/hive/warehouse/sqoop_import.db;
Found 4 items
drwxrwxrwx – root hdfs 0 2018-01-27 12:42 /apps/hive/warehouse/sqoop_import.db/categories
drwxrwxrwx – root hdfs 0 2018-01-27 12:43 /apps/hive/warehouse/sqoop_import.db/customers
drwxrwxrwx – root hdfs 0 2018-01-27 12:44 /apps/hive/warehouse/sqoop_import.db/departments
drwxrwxrwx – root hdfs 0 2018-01-27 12:45 /apps/hive/warehouse/sqoop_import.db/order_items
hive> [root@sandbox-hdp ~]#
But mysql has 6 tables:
mysql> show tables;
Tables_in_retail_db
categories
customers
departments
order_items
orders
products
6 rows in set (0.00 sec)
Please suggest. Thanks !

Is Certification based on version.Suppose i did certification on HDP 2.0 and some time later HDP2.1 came, So my certification got rejected or expired. Please confirm.
February 1, 2018 at 12:07 pm
For all certifications, they recommend some stable version which you can practice. So that you won’t see surprises during the exam with multiple versions. If HDP 2.1, it doesn’t mean your certification is rejected.

Question in regard to DenseRank Computation :-
Why do we have to use flatMap instead of map here. Our Input data is already groupByKey and thus we could have done same thing using simply map. My logic works if i follow your video to do flatMap but does not work with map in last step. Here is my code :-
productsBaseRdd=sc.textFile(Practice_Read_Db_Data_Loc + “products/”).filter(lambda rec:int(rec.split(“,”)) != 685)
productGroupByCategoryId = productsBaseRdd.map(lambda rec: ( int(rec.split(“,”)), rec ) ).groupByKey()
works with flatMap but not with map.
topNPricedProductsPerCategoryId = productGroupByCategoryId.flatMap(lambda rec : getTopNPricedProductsPerCategoryId(rec,3))

Someone who would be very new to this technology cannot learn by only following your blogs + video.

we need to transfer data from some logs t HDFS, we configure hdfs sink path in flume config file so what should be the URL for agent.sinks.hdfs.path? should it be namenodes url or datanode url? as far as i know it should not be datanode url as we would not have control of it as client. if its NN if there are TB’s of data coming as logs so will it be stored in physical location of NN ? if this is the case how the data gets distributed over the cluster?
